TLV warden pairing comment
Character Name: Cloud Strife
Character Journal:
nimbuster
Status: Warden!
Pairing Information: Cloud is a recently graduated inmate who's staying on as a warden for two reasons: he won't leave Sephiroth behind, and he wants a deal to save Fred Burkle's life and soul from both the Cap'n and Illyria.
Cloud has no idea what kind of warden he'll be yet, but he's always been the kind of person who wants to help others and can't just leave anyone to suffer if it's in his power to change that. That said, he's also socially awkward, blunt, and military-minded, so while he'll have a lot of compassion for his inmate and will understand what the experience of being an inmate is like and try to relate to them through that, he won't coddle them or tolerate cruelty or needless violence. He's a soldier, so he gets that sometimes force is necessary to get things done, but he expects anyone using it to carefully weigh the options and avoid collateral damage without compromise.
He's a highly practical person and not very good at or comfortable with talking about feelings (a lot more so than when he arrived on the Barge, though!), so his focus as a warden will mostly be on breaking the issues down into manageable concrete goals and helping his inmate find ways to reach them. He has a lot of patience and tolerance as long as someone's trying their best, even if their best isn't all that great just yet. He's pretty perceptive about people and sometimes has a wisdom beyond his years, so he should be decent at getting to the heart of a problem. He's also a protector by nature and will consider his inmate to be under his protection; he'll go to bat for them if he feels they're being treated unfairly and won't tolerate anyone messing with them.
Some of the issues he's dealt with personally, both as an inmate and as a person, include: identity crisis, self-loathing, guilt, memory issues, questioning reality, terrible self-esteem and feelings of inadequacy, aimlessness, avoidance/self-isolation, and feeling stuck in the past. So he could be a good warden for inmates dealing with any of these.
He could also be a good warden for teenagers, fellow soldiers/warriors, inmates who need acceptance and/or protection or need to feel safe, those who mean well and are willing to try, and those who don't necessarily need a close personal relationship with their warden (though he's willing and able to build them, it isn't his first instinct).
He wouldn't be a great warden for manipulators, inmates who lack compassion or have zero interest in graduation, those who are deliberately cruel, those who love debate and discourse, or those who need a lot of overt affection.
