[Where 'the usual' is nightmares and/or too many thoughts swirling around in his head because he has nothing to keep him otherwise busy. Whether Squall's Cloud ever told him as much, this Cloud doesn't know.]

[Oh he knows the nightmares, his Cloud hadn't slept over much for the fact that the night terrors would keep Squall up but he had insisted enough that Cloud HAD eventually stayed over and he while he didn't know what gave him the terrors he had been there to help him through them. He hoped Cloud had someone here to help him.]

I guess I miss my old bed or something. Are you alone?

Nah. Zack's here, he's just asleep. You usually sleep next to someone at home or is it just the weirdness of a new place?

[Ah yes, the infamous Zack...well, Squall probably has enough context now to know at least one thing about who he might be to Cloud.]

[Well that confirmed it for him. Cloud had someone already. It sucks, it really sucks but he is at least glad he's not alone. He does wish he could be the one who is keeping Cloud protected and cared for of course, but even if it's not him he's glad Cloud isn't alone.]

Used to be alone a long time, had someone for a bit who'd stay over every night. Practically lived with me but then they left.

[Somehow, it hadn't occurred to Cloud that the name 'Leon' is lion-related, until he sees the emoji. Ha. That's kinda cute. Kinda nice for this guy to be worried about him, too, and that suggests that this other Cloud did tell him about the nightmares. Huh. He hadn't realized they were that close in Leon's world; he doesn't mention it to anyone, really, unless--

...unless? Nah. Leon would've said something, right?

Still, it would fit everything he knows about Leon's relationship with his Cloud. Waited for him to come back for months, didn't know where he'd been. Was mad about it at first, like he had good reason to expect that Cloud would tell him where he went. ...well, that's awkward. Time to ignore that thought real hard.]

That sucks, sorry to hear it. You'll probably get used to sleeping in this place soon enough, though.

[He probably won't be sleeping alone for much longer, either, if the Peacekeeper has anything to say about it.]

Doubt it. There is too much missing for me to rest easy but at least I got a bed at the tavern for now. It's weird though. Super dated...like...I feel like I'm stuck in medieval times.

[Yeah he is missing way too much to sleep easy. He doesn't have cloud beside him curled up against him or even a Sora who had a nightmare and needed comfort. When Cloud vanished Aerith had got him a lion plush to sleep with. He'd never admit that he actually used it some nights and it seemed he might have need of it here too. Cloud had someone and Squall knew that meant he was never going to come to his bed. Still it was nice to at least be able to talk to him like this.]

Hey, do you know of any openings around? I kinda like being useful and staying in the tavern all day is boring.

You can get all your stuff back eventually, if you want it. Even your whole house. Only thing the Peacekeeper hasn't been able to recreate so far is people.

Tavern? That's new. Yeah, there's a lot of people here from worlds that are nowhere near as advanced as ours. Whoever brought the tavern is probably from one of those. There's a blue lady here who had never heard of air conditioning.

Hrmm...My whole house and everything in it? That...would be kind of nice. I do miss my apartment.

Cloud doesn't know a whole lot about flirting, but he's fairly sure this must be like Flirting 101 in the playbook he's never read. What is he supposed to do about this?

Fortunately, Leon sends him another reply, giving him the excuse to move on and not respond to that part. Whew.]

That's her. She used magic to cool down one of the cabanas in the jungle we were all stuck in a couple weeks ago. It was so hot I thought I was gonna melt.

[He wasn't purposely flirting. He just really liked emoji they were easier then texting sometimes.]

Just so you know if you are ever too hot I can cool you down. I'm really good with ice magic. I mean I know all kinds of magic but that one comes naturally to me.

[He turns on his side, keeping his DTF and keyboard close to him as he starts to smile in his texts to cloud. This is nice.]

I kind of did a little bit of everything. Head of the restoration committee, carpenter, cook, maid, protector. Watching over you was my second job. I still think I deserve some payment for that.

The world was in ruins and someone had to take charge and fix it. You were too busy finding unique ways to get hurt and yeah you didn't need my help but I gave it anyway.

Considering how annoyed you get just hearing the guys name, I don't want to tell you.

[He turns in the bed he's in, still happy to text but getting a little tired]

She wanted to but would send me instead. She's healed you more times then I can count.

Oh come on. I don't have a rival, so whoever it is, it's probably someone I don't even know.

Man, your Aerith must be different from mine. Mine wouldn't stay behind even if her life depended on it. Maybe especially then.

[Wow okay, there's so much awkward here that Cloud's not sure where to begin. Though if Sephiroth was just his rival and not his mortal enemy in Leon's world, that's...encouraging, right?

And trying to set people up does sound like a thing Aerith would do...but if she was setting him up with Leon, that means she wasn't setting him up with herself. Did that Aerith not want him? Not to mention the awkwardness of having this conversation in the first place.

Real fights or sparring? What do you mean by 'rival'?

I guess Rival is the wrong word. You go after him like a man possessed with the sole purpose of getting rid of him even if you come back with broken body parts at times. Though to be fair he leaves just as beaten as you each time. He just never shows it that well.

[He's getting a little annoyed talking about Sephiroth though]

Don't tell me you are still fighting him here too.

No. Not here. Back home, he did some horrible things. But I found out the situation wasn't what it seemed. He's a totally different person here.
